BUILT SOLID STRONGMAN CHALLENGE

The 2003 Built Solid Strongman Challenge coming to Nationwide Arena and the surrounding Arena District features twenty-four professional strongmen and ten professional strongwomen pushing the limits of human strength and endurance in a grueling two-day competition May 16 & 17. The indoor events will be held Saturday, May 17 at 4 p.m. at Nationwide Arena and a limited number of outdoor events will take place in the Arena District in the evening of Friday, May 16 and the morning of Saturday, May 17.

A strongman competition is a combination of entertainment, serious sport and superhuman feats that test athletes’ physical and mental strength and stamina. Competitors will move, lift and pull extreme weights to reveal their personal strength bests and determine the strongest athlete overall. To provide commentary and color during this intense competition, pro-wrestling great Rowdy Roddy Piper will join announcer David Penzer to interview athletes and supporters of the strongman sport throughout the event.

The following is a sampling of the events spectators can expect to witness: Car Deadlift for Reps requires competitors to lift the back end of a car off the ground and fully stand up with it and lower it back down as many times as possible in 75 seconds; Yoke Walk requires athletes to carry 900 pounds on their shoulders and walk 60 feet; Eliminator: 10 Stone Load requires athletes to load ten 300 pound round stones to a 52 inch platform in 90 seconds.
